The History of WRRA... The First Women's Ranch Rodeo Association National Finals was hosted by the American Royal in Kansas City. They hosted the National Finals for the girls in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Once again the cowgirls took the reins in their own hands and started hosting the finals themselves in 2008. The Girls bumped the finals up notch from previous years by having a 2 day event with 4 rounds. The Association has had teams from New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri compete throughout the past 4 years. Currently the rodeos are being held in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Cowgirls of the Women's Ranch Rodeo Association:
One day a cowgirl was asked to be part of a Ranch Rodeo Team. This girl
had been brought up being no different than man. In her part of the
country there was no segregation, no women's liberation. She was raised
and thought of as a hand. And this is what they wanted - "a hand" on
their team.
The women of the Association are women from all types of backgrounds.
Some have been raised on farms and ranches and some just grew up
dreaming of being a cowgirl one day.
The romance of the lifestyle and the love of a good cowhorse brought
these women together. They compete against each other while still
supporting each other in and out of the arena. Friends have been made.
The camaraderie between these women is like no other.
Their biggest fans? Husbands, Fathers, Brothers..... You get
the point - the men in their lives that work with them everyday
and know what these girls are capable of. Their Mothers could
very well be a teammate, and like always there are no words to express
the Mother's love and support of their daughter. A Fan? You Bet!! Your
Mom is your greatest fan.
It has been said that the only event that is missing from the Women's
Ranch Rodeo is who can cook the best meal while still sorting/roping and
branding. You know - just like at home !!
Thank you for visiting the Women's Ranch Rodeo!! |
